The Executive Vice Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Abisola Omisore, held a strategic engagement with mechanics and artisans at the Mechanical Village located within the Central Business District (CBD), Alausa, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots inclusion and economic development.
The meeting provided a platform for direct interaction with artisans, enabling the local government to better understand their challenges and aspirations. In a show of commitment to occupational safety and productivity, Hon. Omisore distributed protective eyewear to the mechanics, emphasizing the importance of safe work practices and the government’s responsibility to support those who drive the informal economy.
Beyond welfare and safety, the engagement also focused on civic participation. Hon. Omisore encouraged the artisans to register for their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and to formally enroll as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that active political participation remains a key avenue for ensuring that the voices of artisans are heard in governance and policy-making.
Speaking alongside him, the Councillor representing Alausa Ward, Hon. Ganiyu Lawal (aka Gabusy), reaffirmed the Local Government’s resolve to work closely with artisans across Ikeja. Together, they outlined plans by the Ikeja Local Government to improve artisans’ welfare, including initiatives targeted at capacity building, access to support programs, and the creation of a more enabling environment for small-scale businesses to thrive.
The engagement underscored the administration’s broader vision of inclusive governance, where artisans and skilled workers are recognized not only as contributors to the local economy but also as critical stakeholders in the democratic process and the sustainable development of Ikeja.
