Women’s Day: Omisore Calls for Investment in Women-Led Initiatives
In commemoration of International Women’s Day, Abiola Omisore has issued a powerful call to action, urging immediate and sustained investment in women-led initiatives to accelerate gender equality.
Emphasizing this year’s theme, Accelerate Action, Omisore highlighted the urgent need to move beyond mere acknowledgement of gender disparities and actively empower women across all sectors.
He stated, “Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the achievements of women, reflect on the challenges that remain, and commit to accelerating action for gender equality.”
Recognizing the strides made in various areas such as education, leadership, and workplace equality, Omisore underscored the persistent challenges faced by millions of women and girls globally.
These include unequal pay, limited access to healthcare, and the enduring weight of systemic discrimination.
“The theme this year, Accelerate Action, is a call to urgency. It reminds us that progress cannot be slow or passive. While we’ve made strides in education, leadership, and workplace equality, millions of women and girls still face barriers—unequal pay, limited access to healthcare, and the weight of systemic discrimination,” Omisore emphasized.
For the local community of Ikeja Local Government, he stressed that accelerating action involves concrete steps. This includes:
– Investing in women-led initiatives: Providing financial and resource support to projects and organizations led by women.
– Supporting equitable policies: Advocating for and implementing policies that promote gender equality in all spheres.
– Challenging stereotypes: Actively dismantling the societal biases that hinder women’s progress.
– Empowering Women: To provide opportunities for women to thrive in all areas of society.
Omisore also highlighted the importance of collective responsibility, calling on men, leaders, and allies to actively support and amplify women’s voices.
“But this is not just a task for women. It’s a collective responsibility. Men, leaders, and allies must stand alongside women, amplifying their voices and creating spaces where they can thrive”.
In closing, Omisore reiterated the attainability of gender equality through unified and intentional action.
“As we celebrate today, let’s remember: equality is not a distant dream. It’s a goal within our reach—if we act with intention, courage, and unity. Let’s accelerate action, not just today, but every day, until every woman and girl can live with dignity, opportunity, and freedom,”
Omisore concluded.
